Africa: the march of the brands

Africa has among the lowest penetration levels of branded properties in the hospitality sector anywhere in the world. It has long been spoken of as the next frontier for brands in both the hotel and serviced apartment space.

But the talking is giving way to action, and several of the big hitters in the serviced apartment sector are already active in Africa. Marriott has recently opened Executive Apartments properties in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Johannesburg, South Africa; Emaar is to operate apartments in Abuja, Nigeria; Rotana has signed a property in Lagos, Nigeria; and BridgeStreet has apartments in Nigeria, South Africa and Tanzania.
