Plans submitted for Edinburgh office conversion

UK: Northumberland Street Properties has submitted plans for an Edinburgh office conversion into short-let serviced apartments.

The proposal calls for 1 Broughton Market to be transformed by 3DReid Architects into seven apartments including a penthouse in the dormer roof.

The applicant said that the risk of late-night disturbances can be reduced by vetting guests, using noise monitors and over-occupancy controls.

Grant Rawlinson of Northumberland Street Properties said: “No.1 Broughton Market will become the fourth property in our portfolio of very high quality short-let accommodation, building on an existing reputation for innovative design in top-end, purpose-built and professionally managed accommodation within the city of Edinburgh.”

Northumberland Street Properties operates a portfolio of 35 apartments, predominantly one bed or studio units.

Chris Dobson, director at 3DReid said: “Whilst situated in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town, the Broughton Market area continues to hold onto its distinct charm and identity, long established before its amalgamation within a Georgian urban block.

“It’s been a real pleasure to be afforded the opportunity to consider a contemporary intervention to this location, one which seeks to draw upon its rich industrial heritage and idiosyncrasies, whilst further diversifying the use and animation of the area,” he added.

The project team includes Will Rudd Davidson and Harley Haddow.

Elsewhere in Edinburgh, plans have also been submitted by Blagden Property to transform the Wallace Tutorial College on George IV Bridge into a seven-unit aparthotel.
