Worksop pub could become aparthotel

UK: A pub located in Worksop, a market town in Nottinghamshire, could be converted into an aparthotel following a planning application to Bassetlaw District Council.

The Swan Inn on Castle Street underwent a full renovation in 2015. In 2022 it was put on the market by Fleurets, a firm of chartered surveyors for the leisure sector.

Rufford Abbey Investments has submitted a planning application to Bassetlaw District Council to convert the upper floors of the pub into eight aparthotel rooms.

Architecture and planning consultancy firm Fusion 13 said in the design and access statement: “The proposal is for the conversion of the first and second floors of the existing property to create eight aparthotel rooms which would be used for short stay accommodation.

“In order to deliver the proposal, internal alternations and the construction of a new rear extension would take place. The re-opening of the public house on the ground floor (which does not require planning) and minor alterations to the existing car park will also take place.”

Proposed work includes the removal of an existing rear chimney and external metal staircase, the addition of a new entrance, and a replacement of the front windows.

A decision on the planning application is expected by 23 September 2025.

Highlights:

• Plans have been submitted to convert part of The Swan Inn, Worksop, into an eight-room aparthotel.

• Proposed works include a rear extension, internal changes, and façade updates.

• The ground-floor pub will reopen alongside the new accommodation.

• Rufford Abbey Investments is behind the project.

• Bassetlaw District Council is due to decide on the application by September 2025
