It is such a complex issue that it seems for every downside there is a positive too, and it’s the positives for the extended stay sector that we at Serviced Apartment News are determined to emphasise.
A weaker pound has already seen a big surge in overseas visitor interested to the UK, most notably from the US and China, while property assets here have become more attractive to global investors, almost overnight.
There are obviously downsides too, but it’s important to emphasise that the Brexit process – assuming it happens, as there are legal challenges pending – will be a long and drawn out one. It is in nobody’s interest to be paralysed by fear of the future, and as my colleague Piers Brown writes in a thought-provoking blog entry, the serviced apartment sector must be nimble enough to capitalise on the current situation.
There are some great industry leaders and products that will help navigate the growth path and I look forward to the momentum the 2016 Serviced Apartment Summit promises to collectively deliver. The event is sure to be a fascinating snapshot of an industry becoming a firmly established mainstream element of the hospitality and travel industry. It will be the biggest and best Summit yet with more than 350 attendees, and there is still time to buy tickets!
