Five companies in the bedding industry – Hypnos, CLEAN, The Fine Bedding Company, Tradelinens and Sealy – speak to SAN about the latest product innovations in the market.

Hypnos

Award-winning specialist, international hospitality bed manufacturer and sleep expert Hypnos Contract Beds, has launched its new bedding collection designed specifically for the hospitality sector.

The range consists of three bundles, comprising of pillows and pillow protectors, mattress protector and duvet, which were selected to assist hoteliers in providing their guests with a superior night’s sleep.

The Luxury Wool Bedding Bundle contains 100 per cent British wool encased in natural cotton. The wool has hypoallergenic properties and transports 48 per cent more moisture than polyester, and 67 per cent more than feather and down, over an eight-hour period. As well as being sustainable, wool improves sleep quality by up to 25 per cent and regulates body temperature.

Clare Taylor, Hypnos Contract Beds marketing manager, said: “As a trusted supplier to some of the largest hotels, spas and resorts in the world, Hypnos holds a reputation for manufacturing products that meet the highest standards in terms of quality, practicality and luxury. We provide an extensive range of luxurious and versatile sleep solutions, from mattresses and bed bases to sofa beds. However, we realise there are other essential extras that further enhance and protect guests’ sleep experience.

“With a passion for innovation, Hypnos already boasts one of the broadest product portfolios within the hospitality sector and we’re delighted to add our new bedding collection, available in luxury, deluxe or classic bundles, to our existing hospitality range,” she added.

Hypnos supplies ethically-made, sustainable beds and mattresses to homes, palaces and hotels around the world. It has also won awards for its sustainable actions and held a Royal Warrant since 1929.

Hypnos was the world’s first carbon-neutral bed maker and has recently been awarded carbon neutral status for the seventh year running.  The company also uses sustainable materials including certified timbers from managed forests, meaning all beds, sofa beds and bedding are 100 per cent recyclable at the end of their life.

CLEAN

CLEAN is a UK market leader and operator in the commercial B2B laundry sector with seven well-invested laundry production facilities.

Acquired by Alsco in May 2018, CLEAN offers a high-quality product range and customer-focused service to its portfolio of 5,500+ businesses, ranging from independently-run organisations to leading global brands. The independent laundry provider’s growing product and service range leads the way in commercial linen, laundry and workwear innovation.

The business produces and delivers more than 130,000 workwear items and five million linen items to its customers each week. This year, CLEAN has also significantly reduced its use of shrink film plastic across its seven laundries.

Linen is the second largest expense of the hospitality sector. Every hotel has its own individual linen requirements and CLEAN provides each customer with training on how to look after and rotate their linen stock for optimum quality, as well as using CLEAN’s own streamline management system.

By maintaining a two-way dialogue with customers and using radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, CLEAN’s quality control systems enable stock to be efficiently tracked and delivery accuracy to become more precise so any issues can be addressed promptly.

CLEAN’s customers can choose from more than 60 products in its newly-launched three-range-strong white linen collection to meet their brand standards and operational objectives.

The ethically-sourced collection includes the ‘Lucia’ – a budget-friendly selection of thread-count bed linen, towels and bath mats; ‘Isabella’ – bed linen available in a range of designs and thread counts as well as bath mats and towels; and ‘Oria’ – CLEAN’s premium selection of bed linen used in luxury hotels with up to 350 thread count linen.

CLEAN’s chief commercial officer Steve Clarke said: “We understand how vital it is for businesses to have a reliable supply of clean linen. The very nature of the hospitality industry is making visitors feel welcome and comfortable in an environment away from home. If the basics such as clean linen are addressed, hotel and restaurant staff can focus on offering a generous reception, entertaining and providing exceptional levels of service to ensure their guests have an enjoyable stay.

“There are numerous benefits to hotels choosing to rent their linen and outsource its laundry management. Hotels don’t have to invest in buying and maintaining a large stock of linen as the entire process is managed by the supplier. With good internal husbandry and careful management of stock levels by the laundry, high quality linen will always be available to the hotel,” he added.

The Fine Bedding Company

The Fine Bedding Company is a family owned, fourth generation business that has specialised in the design, manufacture and supply of top quality duvets, pillows and mattress toppers, for over one hundred years.

The award-winning company was the first to market with the Four Seasons duvet concept and the first truly home washable duvet (Spundown); it was also the only bedding manufacturer to receive the Queens Award for Innovation. The newest string to its innovation bow is Smartfil, which uses the latest advanced fibre technology to offer a practical alternative to more traditional down filled bedding products.

It operates its own wholly-owned 5,500m2 purpose-built production facility and invests heavily in ongoing research and development so it can bring to market innovative, market leading products which fully utilise the latest materials and manufacturing techniques.

The Smartfil range is delivered direct from the factory so it has full control of the manufacturing cycle from order to delivery.

The Fine Bedding Company produces nearly 30,000 quilts, over 52,000 pillows and more than 1300 toppers every week. To meet demand, its plant is in operation 24/7.

Tradelinens

Tradelinens is an established supplier to the luxury hospitality industry, interior designers and private customers.

It supplies the finest bed, bath and table linen, and its service is underpinned by over 70 years’ combined industry experience and a sharp focus on delivering luxury in an ethical way.

Founders Robert Lancaster Gaye and Joe Molloy established Tradelinens out of a desire to sell high-end products to five-star hotels, while giving clients the best advice.

They quickly noticed hoteliers and other linen suppliers did not know the difference between average, good and excellent quality linen, so their mission was to educate their customers on balancing quality and longevity, while delivering a product that exceeds expectations.

Its international client list includes The Firmdale Collection, The Savoy, The Dorchester, The Pig Group and Soho House Group, through to smaller exclusive boutique hotels and the Royal Palaces.

Regarding innovation within the linen industry, Joe Molloy said: “Like the fashion world, innovations in bedding come and go, but one factor remains the same – the look and feel of good quality linen, made from the finest quality 100 per cent cotton yarns, is key.

“Our linens are finished to the highest standard and stitched by a team of highly skilled individuals who know how to deliver an expertly made product, befitting of an industry that thrives on an unscrupulous attention to detail, where nothing but the best will do,” he added.
