UK: Marlin Apartments managing director Susan Cully has revealed the company’s plans to double its number of units in the next five years.
The company recently announced the construction of a 218-room aparthotel on Westminster Bridge Road, its first venture into the aparthotel model, and is due to announce another project shortly.
The company owns and operates around 700 units in central London, and plans to increase this figure by 30 per cent by 2016 and to double it by 2020.
Cully said: “Marlin has always been a leader when it comes to industry trends; for instance, we were one of the first to enter east London years prior to the 2012 Olympics. Now we have chosen to diversify our offering to guests by adapting our model to accommodate the growing leisure sector Marlin is seeing come through its doors.”
The company is developing its first site outside of London in what it describes as a strategic step to capture the increasing leisure market that Marlin has seen over the past few years. According to the Office for National Statistics, tourist visits to the UK in Q3 of 2014 increased by four per cent compared with the same period last year, and 2013 full-year figures showed a record tourism increase of 7.7 per cent.
“This is a very exciting time for Marlin. We expanded rapidly throughout the previous decade with our most recent property in Aldgate in 2009, and have since focused on perfecting quality and service for the benefit of our guests. Now that we are the industry leader, it is time for us to branch out in order to stay ahead.” said Cully.
