UK: Enabling works have started at SACO’s Whitworth Locke property in Manchester

Contractor Complete Demolition has been appointed to undertake the enabling works on the building, which was formerly The Atrium serviced apartment complex.

The Atrium is made up of three buildings: Central House, Johnson House and Dominion House. The Central Building has Grade II listed status. The buildings stand on the corner of Whitworth Street and Princess Street and are bordered along the back by the Rochdale Canal.

The project comprises the strip out of the buildings followed by soft refurbishment of the existing retained rooms, remodelling and adding extra rooms to create a minimum of 150 apartments. The building has a lower ground level which will be converted, along with the ground floor into retail space.

Complete Demolition started the enabling works in early July 2017. The enabling works will be completed by the end of October.

SACO acquired the property earlier this year – Whitworth Locke will have a phased opening, beginning in March 2018 and completing by June 2018.</p
