New Zealand: Oaks Hotels & Resorts will open its first extended stay hotel in Wellington, on New Zealand’s North Island, next year.

Scheduled to open in Q2 2019, the nine-storey Oaks Wellington will be located on Courtenay Place in Wellington’s thriving CBD. An extensive multi-million dollar renovation, currently in progress, will transform the former Colonial Motor Company Building site – originally constructed in 1923 – into a contemporary extended stay hotel that will be managed by Oaks Hotels & Resorts.

Featuring a mirrored façade, Oaks Wellington will feature 226 rooms and apartments, catering to both business and leisure travellers. The apartments will be equipped with modern kitchenettes, while all rooms will feature high-tech amenities, including Smart TVs, which will allow guests to stream directly from their mobile devices; keyless entry by way of smartphones; and high-speed Wi-Fi.

The hotel will also have a first-floor restaurant and bar, a gymnasium, ground floor communal lounge, conferencing venues and underground parking.

Craig Hooley, chief operations officer of Oaks Hotels & Resorts – Australia and New Zealand, said: “We are delighted to announce our brand’s first foray into Wellington, which plays into our international expansion strategy and perfectly complements our existing New Zealand portfolio spanning Queenstown and Auckland.”

“Wellington is a dynamic city with so much to offer and continues to enjoy strong tourism growth, particularly from Australian markets. We are confident this property will be a success when it opens its doors to travellers next year and look forward to having a brand presence in three key New Zealand destinations,” he added.
