EUROPE: Edyn’s Locke aparthotel will be opening in three European locations next year, including a sixth property in London.

Locke at East Side Gallery – Friedrichshain, Berlin will open in May 2023, offering 176 studio apartments with fully equipped kitchens, and views across the River Spree.
The aparthotel will also feature a coworking space for guests and locals, a coffee shop, flexible meeting and events space that includes a rooftop terrace, and a 24-hour gym on the eighth floor, with views across Berlin’s Mediaspree.
Designed by Matthew Grzywinski of Grzywinski+Pons, Locke at East Side Gallery takes its design cues from its microlocality – most notably the former Berlin Wall, River Spree, and neighbouring parks. One unique aspect of the aparthotel is the “audiophile” bar and restaurant, which will introduce immersive ways of experiencing music in the German capital.

In June Locke will open its sixth London property. Located in Kensington and Chelsea, the aparthotel will offer 121 apartments, ranging from studios to one- and two-bed open-plan living spaces. The lobby and common areas will have a bar, restaurant, coworking space, meeting areas, and private gardens.
Located on Cromwell Road, the aparthotel is in a neighbourhood rich with cultural attractions and is within walking distance of some of London’s most famous museums, including the Design Museum, the Victoria & Albert, and the Natural History Museum.
Designed by London-based architects and designers Atelier Ochre, with interior design specialists House of Dré, the mandate was to create beautiful, authentic, and liveable spaces for both hotel guests and the local community. Drawing inspiration from the iconic art deco style of Derry & Tom’s Department store and the golden age of Kensington, the design offers a glamorous mid-century aesthetic complete with green spaces and a contemporary approach which reflects the needs of modern travellers.

Also in the summer, Locke al Platz is set to open in Zurich, marking Locke’s first entry into Switzerland.
Situated in the Enge neighborhood of the city, the aparthotel will offer 80 rooms, in a mix of studio and one-bed suites, alongside amenities including a restaurant, bar and coffee shop.
Reflecting Locke’s locally focused ethos, interior studio Sella Concept is tasked with reflecting the cultural identity of Zurich through a distinctive and sophisticated aesthetic for the rooms and common areas.
Beyond
edyn also recently announced its first foray into France with Locke to open in Paris in 2024 with 145 apartments.
Spring 2024 will also see the opening of Locke De Santa Joana, Lisbon with 368 apartments and Karsten Locke Copenhagen with 236 apartments.
In March this year edyn secured an additional £105 million in debt funding from Blackstone Mortgage Trust and KSL Capital Partners’ European Capital Solutions platform (KSL ECS). The new funding round expands on the £195 million multi-asset debt facility agreed last year with Blackstone and KSL, bringing total funding through the facility to £300 million to date. It was originally established to support the acquisition and development of five new Locke and Cove projects across Europe, and this latest deal will further support edyn’s expansion strategy.
