UK: Final bids for the development of the first aparthotel on the Isle of Wight have been submitted for consideration by the council.

The site, which is a car park and derelict building close to Shanklin’s popular Esplanade, was identified as needing regeneration in 2019.

The plans include a 30 key aparthotel with kitchenettes and 14 residential apartments with private parking. On the ground floor there will be four units ideal for a bar or cafe or retail space.

Several workshops in the derelict arches at the cliffs are to be created offering space for local Isle of Wight businesses and enterprises.

A climbing wall is also included in the plans to promote healthy activity.

There will be a 40 space pay and display car park but the proposed scheme actually reduces the number of pay and display car parking spaces by 38. Currently there are 78 car park spaces plus coach spaces. The proposal suggests a shuttle bus service could operate to the Esplanade.

The council will meet tomorrow to decide on the final bid.

Last year a Hampshire aparthotel was reopened after being bought out of administration.
