UK: Proposals for an aparthotel in Birmingham city centre have been given the green light by planners.

Service Properties UK is behind the scheme for Ladywell House in Hurst Street, next to the Genting casino. The proposals include changing the use of 1,463 square feet of office space on the third floor of the building to six aparthotel units.

A council document said: “The third floor of the building is currently vacant and the proposed change of use would bring this vacant floor space back into use. The site is located in a busy city centre location which is surrounded by a number of bars, clubs and restaurants, including the Hippodrome Theatre and Arcadian Centre. Due to the number of late night uses, there is likely to be a level of disturbance during the evening period for future occupiers, however given the nature of the proposed use characterised by temporary residence and taking into account the local character, I do not consider that the potential harm would be significant enough to justify refusal on amenity grounds. The principle of the proposed use is acceptable in this location and would have an acceptable impact on the surrounding area and highway safety matters.”
