UK: Dexter Moren Associates (DMA) has achieved planning approval for an 82-unit new build aparthotel at Orchard Road in Cambridge.

Working for TLC Group, DMA revised an existing outline planning consent to improve the efficiency, quality and practicality of the 82-unit aparthotel within the Orchard Park Development in Cambridge.

Consisting of studio, one-bed and two-bed apartments, DMA says its design “promotes a suitably residential feel, sensitive to the surrounding area, with a rhythm of pitched roof gables along the length of the building in line with the domestic context of Orchard Park. The façade design creates visual interest by juxtaposing the textures of its masonry construction. Conventional brickwork is offset by textured brickwork and smooth stone panels are offset by imprinted decorative effects.”

The site is located close to business parks and the world-renowned Cambridge Science Park, which provide a strong business demand for longer stay units for business travellers and employees.

Mark Wood, director at DMA, said: “This project represents an important continuation for DMA within the fast expanding sector of aparthotels. Set within a fledgling residential community this long stay accommodation takes its design cues from domestic architecture in order to root it within its community. The choice of robust masonry materials takes influence from the beautiful city of Cambridge.”

TLC Group recently broke ground on a separate 162-unit aparthotel, also in Cambridge.</p
