UK: Developer Gainford Group has opened the County Aparthotel in a Grade II-listed building in Newcastle.
The care and leisure group already operates the Vermont Hotel and The County Hotel in Newcastle city centre and has recently purchased the former Premier Inn hotel in New Bridge Street.
Having successfully operated its first aparthotel – the Vermont Aparthotel – on Newcastle Quayside over the last three years, the firm has invested £4 million on a second aparthotel scheme at the former Grainger House, to complement the nearby County Hotel.
The County Aparthotel, on the corner of Westgate Road and Clayton Street, has 19 apartments, each with a high-spec kitchen, living room, dining room and ensuite bathroom.
The firm’s 100-strong construction team has spent seven months converting the former office building into apartments, and around 30 new jobs have been created.
A spokesman for Gainford Group said: “Our work to transform the building has gone very well over the last seven months, with great support from the council in terms of what we wanted for the project and we hope it’s going to breathe new life and regenerate this part of the city. We have just opened to guests and were fully booked on our opening weekend so it’s going really well so far.”
