UK: Plans have been submitted to Glasgow City Council to transform the Cotton House office into a 143-bed aparthotel.

Cotton House, located on the corner of Cochrane Street and Montrose Street in the Merchant City area of Glasgow, was originally built in 1998 by Piers Gough of CZWG. Under the proposed plans, it will be transformed into an aparthotel to be operated by Roomzzz.

As part of the development, a new commercial unit on the ground floor would be added with an internal link with the aparthotel. A new mezzanine floor within the double height ground floor area would also create coworking space operated by the WorkInc brand. The coworking space will provide a mix of meeting rooms, open work spaces, and a podcast studio.

The basement would be used for back of house facilities and additional amenities such as cycle provision and six electric car charing spaces. The existing fifth-floor terrace would be used to host pop-up events.

CDA Group, which submitted the design and access statement on behalf of The Parklane Group, said: “A key factor of the aparthotel is the amenity provided throughout the hotel. With an impressive reception – it will include artwork which references the local area and Glasgow. At ground floor, lounges and communal eating facilities will be provided all with an open plan concept visible from the large expanses of curtain walling. The layout has been purposely designed to help to reactivate the elevations to Cochrane Street.”

The target date for a decision by Glasgow City Council has been set for 5 January 2024.

Roomzzz currently has a portfolio of 11 aparthotels across the UK. Should plans be approved, the Glasgow site would mark the brand’s debut in the city. Earlier this year, Roomzzz opened its first property in Scotland, located in the country’s capital city Edinburgh.
