UK: Proposals to build a serviced apartment building in Cardiff have been recommended for approval by the local council.

Drake Walk Ltd has lodged plans for the construction of a six-storey building with 77 aparthotel units, rooms adjacent to Drake Walk. It has committed to contributing more than £100,000 to benefit the local area if the approval is secured.

The aparthotel element of the building is located on the upper five floors of the building, with a commercial space and lobby area on the ground floor. The application site is a parcel of land at the western boundary of the Waterfront 2000 office park, directly west of the Dock Feeder Canal.

A statement filed on behalf of the applicant with Cardiff Council, whose planning committee meets on 19 August, said: “The proposed scheme will take maximum advantage of the site’s position within this established residential/commercial area to create high a quality sustainable development.”

A report to be discussed by the committee recommends that the plans be given the green light.
