UK: Real estate firm JBSL Holdings has submitted plans for change of use approval of a fast food restaurant and retail sites into a 62-bed aparthotel in Chester city centre.
Located at 46-52 Foregate Street, the 41,000 square-foot site is currently occupied by McDonald’s, Bodycare and Deichmann.
Should the green light be given by Cheshire West and Chester Council, 58 one-bed and four two-bed apartments would be created on the first, second and third floors of the building.
Amenities are set to include a fitness suite, lobby, and restaurant/coffee bar.
Access to the aparthotel would be provided via Priory Street, with a couple of parking spaces to be allocated for hotel guests.
In the planning application, JBSL Holdings said: “The proposed aparthotel will bring a significant number of serviced hotel rooms to the bustling Foregate Street, offering a convenient and premium option for those who wish to stay in a serviced apartment in the city centre.
“There is a demand for this offering in the historic heart of the city centre, which our scheme seeks to provide.”
Westbourne Consulting, Paul Treacy Architects, Element Sustainability, Boston Transport Planning, Spratt and Hamer, Pre-Construct Archaeaology, and Ascerta form the project team.
According to the council website, a neighbour consultation on the application is expected by 30 July 2024.
