Portugal: Lifestyle aparthotel brand Locke has opened its sixteenth property in Lisbon, located closed to Avenida da Liberdade.

Locke de Santa Joana is the group’s biggest hotel to date, featuring 370 apartments, hotel rooms, suites, and penthouses across nine floors.

Amenities include a co-working area, event and meeting spaces, a museum, and a courtyard pool with sun terrace.

Design studios Lázaro Rosa-Violán and Post Company collaborated to lead the transformation of the site, which comprises the restoration of a 17th century convent with a purpose-built hotel. The design concept within the public areas, overseen by Rosa-Violán, takes inspiration from its history.

White Rabbit Projects and Spiritland have also partnered with Locke on several F&B venues. The first phase of launches include an all-day dining restaurant and a cafe.

Santa Marta is a 60-cover all-day dining restaurant with an outdoor terrace and bar overlooking the aparthotel’s pool. Café Castro’s, located at the entrance of the property, serves pastries, sandwiches and more.

The second phase (autumn 2024) will see the introduction of three bars and a Portuguese brasserie. These include Spiritland, a subterranean music-led space; whiskey bar The Kissaten; champagne and martini bar O Pequeno; and Santa Joana, a brasserie in the main convent space which White Rabbit Projects will open in partnership with an internationally renowned chef.

In addition to Lisbon, upcoming openings for Locke include Paris (2025) and Copenhagen.
