UK: Property development and investment firm JSM Company Group has submitted plans to convert the Lomax club in Liverpool into 11 serviced apartments.
The Lomax club on Cumberland Street in Liverpool was a popular music venue in the 1990s, hosting acts including Oasis, Muse, Echo and the Bunnymen, Stereophonics and more. It operated as nightclub until 2019 when planning permission was granted for an apartment conversion.
JSM Company Group has since submitted a proposal to transform the site into 11 one and two-bedroom serviced apartments, occupying the Lomax building and the adjacent Temple building.
The design and access statement, provided by Wroot Design, said that the units would “cater for individuals, couples and groups”. Each unit would offer furnished bathrooms and living/kitchen areas all facing out onto Cumberland Street.
The planning documents read: “All aspects have been designed with the urban grain of the area in mind, ensuing by reusing the existing building as it is the proposed development doesn’t take anything away from the area.
“Serviced aparthotels are becoming a popular service across the city centre and offer a variety of opportunities for both the local residents and the tourist population. The application supports the need for varying unit types to sustain population levels and to address the issues of urban density. The development can contribute to the identified regeneration programmes of the area and reduce the worsening vacancy rates of the properties.”
The application is currently under public consultation with a date for review yet to be set by Liverpool City Council.
