UK: Plans for a four storey aparthotel in a Grade II listed building in Margate have been approved.
The proposal for a seven key aparthotel at 15 & 16 Hawley Square was made by MCUBE Ltd.
The Georgian style property, which is next to Margate’s Theatre Royal, has been vacant for a number of years.
MCUBE Ltd said in the application: “Margate has in recent years regained popularity as a weekend and seasonal destination with visitors from the capital, and the offer of quality accommodation has the potential to attract more interest. The proposal wishes to capture the spirit of Margate and bring it back to life in an updated version for the new visitors that it will attract.”
Plans include a 92 sqm two-bedroom apartment on the lower ground floor, with private patio.
There will be two, one-bed apartments on the ground floor and second floor.
The first floor will have an 82 sqm two bedroom apartment and the third floor will have an 87 sqm one bedroom apartment with access to a roof terrace.
All apartments have ensuite bathrooms and a separate lounge and kitchen area.
The aparthotel is close to the station and as such the application suggests drop off and unloading only at the small rear car park.
Planning permission was recently sought for an aparthotel in another UK seaside town – this time in Cornwall.
