New Zealand: Hamilton City Council has approved a mixed-use development on the site of a former gym on Hamilton’s Victoria Street.

The gym building was demolished in 2014 and at the time, building owners Foster Construction planned to create a retail and office space.

The approved new project is a 13-storey building with hotel rooms, serviced apartments, a restaurant and commercial space.

Foster Construction commercial manager Leonard Gardner said: “It’s a concept that has been approved and it’s trying to respond to what Hamilton needs,” Gardner said.

An operator has yet to be appointed.
