UK: Kings Oak Miami LLP, the owners of the Great Brighams Mead offices in Reading, have resubmitted plans to develop an aparthotel at the top of the building.

Kings Oak Miami LLP has submitted planning permission to extend Great Brighams Mead by two floors to accommodate an 100-key aparthotel. The property would be operated by Rogue City Hotels.

Previously, the owner’s application to build 72 apartments had been rejected by the planning department at Reading Borough Council.

Fresh plans call for 100 C1 hotel rooms – divided by 62 rooms on the third floor and 38 rooms on the fourth floor – including a mix of one and two-bedrooms.

Peek Architecture + Design said in a statement: “The application site, Great Bigham Meads, is a 2.6-acre site with a prominent office building located in Reading’s town centre. Previously commercial use class for headquarters of mobile phone company Three, the building has recently been changed to a residential use class providing 110 apartment accommodation across three floors.

“This application is for additional upper storey accommodation to be run as a Class C1 hotel. While the proposal seeks to demolish the existing roof there will be additional accommodation proposed within the new roof. A lift will operate to the proposed floors making all of the proposed rooms accessible.”

The application also states that Rogue City Hotels will employ 15 staff members per day, comprising 50 per cent full-time staff and 50 per cent cleaners, visiting once per day. The objective is to achieve an average length stay of three nights.

The proposal is currently under consultation and can be viewed here.
