UK: Cambridge Road Real Estates Ltd has submitted plans to Bradford Council to construct a 104-bed aparthotel on the site of a former warehouse on Sunbridge Road.
Plans call for a five-storey aparthotel to be built on vacant scrub land at 181-183 Sunbridge Road, where The Laconian warehouse had previously occupied. The site sits within the Goitside Conservation Area.
The building will provide 104 rooms with a lounge, bar, restaurant, foyer and reception areas on the ground floor. The bar/restaurant space will incorporate a terraced seating area to part of the rear external space.
Acumen Designers & Architects, which submitted the design and access statement, said: “Each room offers en-suite accommodation as well as a small kitchenette and living space. The hotel has been designed to allow for guests such as building contractors to stay for a couple of weeks and to be able to cater for themselves. This has been identified by our client as a key demographic with high demand. It is anticipated on a weekend these rooms will then be let to leisure travellers who are wanting to get a taste of Bradford’s cultural offerings.
“Aparthotel developments are increasingly popular in the UK and represent a rapidly growing part of the hospitality sector. Whilst similar in many respects to a hotel with a lobby, reception, communal lounge and amenities, the guest units are more akin to apartments. The units included a wider range of home features, which increases the flexibility for guests. The duration of a guest stay may be anywhere between a few nights to six months or more. Due to the flexibility of the aparthotel model, they appeal to a wide variety of guests, including tourists and the business sector.”
A decision on the application is expected in October.
