UK: Roomzzz has submitted plans for a 105-unit aparthotel on the site of Liverpool’s former George Henry Lee store.

The proposal, which has been submitted to Liverpool City Council, would see floors two to seven of the building being converted into an aparthotel. The lower floors of the building are currently occupied by retailer TK Maxx.

A document to be considered by the local authority says: “The proposed development will aid the preservation of an important Liverpool landmark building, reanimate the link building on Basnett Street which was previously an entrance to and link between both the Bon Marche and George Henry Lee buildings.

“Increased footfall on the street, especially outside normal shopping hours, will improve natural and electronic surveillance and create a safer and more pedestrian friendly environment.

“It is proposed to improve the entrance to the link building link building with a stylish projecting canopy but otherwise, little change is proposed to the exterior of the building.

“The deep footprint of the building which suited a retail layout, means that an innovative approach to including some internal rooms which will nevertheless offer the high standards which Roomzzz require to offer their customers.”
