UK: Developer New Life Hotels Ltd is set to begin work on its proposed serviced apartment building next to The Plough Hotel on Bridge Street, Northampton.

New Life Hotels was granted an outline approval for the apartment site in 2020. A previous application submitted in 2016 to build 56 apartments was initially refused.

The new, three-storey accommodation will feature 35 serviced apartments in place of a two-storey outbuilding to the rear of The Plough.

Designs for the landscaping, the exterior of the building, parking bays, cycle storage and more, have now been released three years after the outline planning approval. West Northamptonshire Council has given the go ahead for work on the project to begin.

When the scheme was approved in 2020, Northampton Borough Council said of its decision: “The proposed development represents an acceptable land use and would not have a significant adverse impact upon the character and appearance of the surrounding area, neighbour amenity, the highway system, crime and safety or flood risk. Whilst there would be some harm to the historic environment, this would not be significant and would be outweighed by the public benefits of the scheme.”

Development could not commence until approval of the landscaping (the reserved matters) were obtained from the local planning authority.
