UK: Princes Buildings, a rehearsal space for acts including Miles Kane and The Futons, could be converted in to serviced apartments.

A planning application has been lodged to turn the 19th century Dale Street building into 35 serviced apartments and a 39-room hostel have been revealed.

Permission is also requested for “extensive” internal and external repair and refurbishment works and a rear extension to 10 Hockenhall Alley to form part of the serviced apartment scheme.

An online petition calling on the council to deny consent and “protect one of Liverpool’s music scene’s most valuable assets” had gained more than 2,700 signatures when this article was published.

Cllr Nick Small, who represents the ward Princes Buildings lies in, welcomed the planning application, saying: “I think this part of the city centre is changing, it’s becoming more about leisure and I do welcome this. We have been working with the bands to try and find alternatives and there are some that we have identified. I’m hopeful we can get a win-win scenario – get this much-needed investment into the city centre but also find the alternative for the bands. It is the right development for this part of the city.”</p
