Germany: Developer GBI Group has broke ground on its latest SMARTments connect project, located in Bielefeld.
Scheduled to open by the end of 2025, SMARTments connect Bielefeld will offer 223 units with a communal kitchen on the top floor. Public spaces will be used for coworking, socialising and events.
The property has a DGNB Gold pre-certification, and its energy-efficient design is combined with a photovoltaic system to utilise the building’s own electricity. Other sustainable features include a curtain wall cladding, which consists of 40 per cent recycled building material.
It marks the second SMARTments connect in Germany. The first opened a few weeks ago in Frankfurt.
“The high demand for our products is a clear signal of the relevance of our offering, and we are consistently focusing on growth,” said Daniel Zawe, managing director of SMARTments.
The SMARTments connect offer – which was introduced last year – focuses on community living. The brand joins GBI’s SMARTments business concept where rooms come with kitchenettes.
With the addition of the Bielefeld site as well as pipeline properties, the total SMARTment portfolio stands at almost 2,400 units. GBI aims to more than double its footprint to around 5,000 apartments over the next few years.
There are 302 SMARTments business units under construction in Frankfurt (142) and Hamburg (160).
