UK: Management and consultancy firm Switch Hospitality Management has been selected to manage the Aparthotel Birmingham, set to open this autumn.

The site, which was formerly known as the Royal Angus Hotel in St Chads Queensway, was acquired by SevenCapital in August 2020. A £13.5 million loan was granted to SevenCapital by Pluto Finance in November 2022 to fund the property.

When complete, the redevelopment will provide 161 units to rent, with 84 studios, 71 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom apartments across nine floors with on-site parking. The 92,000 square-foot property will also be pet friendly.

Aparthotel Birmingham is the latest property to join Switch Hospitality’s portfolio, which currently includes Park Regis in Broad Street, Park Regis Birmingham, Holiday Inn Express Birmingham South, and the re-opening of the refurbished Nitenite hotel in central Birmingham.

John Angus, managing director of Switch Hospitality Management, said: “From the pre-planning stages of Royal Angus’ redevelopment, we were able to offer expert consultation that would both maximise the asset value for SevenCapital while responding to the burgeoning demand for high-quality accommodation in the city centre.”

Damien Siviter, group managing director of SevenCapital, said: “Aparthotel Birmingham will prove a fantastic asset to the hospitality provision in Birmingham city centre, with very few of this kind currently in operation in its locality. We’re pleased to have Switch Hospitality Management on board to manage its operations, having established a successful working partnership with them through our Park Regis Hotel and St Martin’s Place residential developments. We look forward to the anticipated opening later this year.”
