EU: Serviced apartment booking platform TheSqua.re has rolled out its EcoGrade carbon measurement tool across properties in the UK, the Netherlands, France and Spain.

EcoGrade provides travellers with a measurement of how sustainable a stay will be in one of TheSqua.re’s apartments.

The tool collects data across four categories – supported by government data and EPC reports – which are then displayed and rated on TheSqua.re’s website and booking confirmation.

The four areas which EcoGrade analyses includes:

• Energy efficiency – deducted from recent EPC reports.

• Energy use – a measurement of the average energy use per metre squared (as predicted by the EPC), supported by meter readings.

• Green suppliers – whether utilities such as gas and electric are provided by companies which deliver zero carbon emissions. Where possible, the switch to green energy suppliers are made.

• Green transportation – whether apartments are located close to bike sharing programmes, eScooters, and other public transport.

Sid Narang, founder of TheSqua.re, said: “EcoGrade is a reflection of the true technology company culture we have. We are always solving problems for our customers and sometimes, not always, it leads to a big hit. EcoGrade has been a tremendous success, and the mission has been very simple: how can we reliably calculate carbon emissions to better inform customers about the environmental impact of their stay and entire trip?”

“Today, our data science teams are busy mapping out EcoGrade ratings for millions of serviced apartments in hundreds of cities globally. This is how we are continuing our environmental pledges, through the global expansion of EcoGrade, and with sustainable innovations throughout the business model.”

EcoGrade currently covers all apartments across the United Kingdom, France, the Netherlands and Spain. Central Europe is the next target region for the team.
