US: Architect and designer Jennifer Post is creating new interiors for AKA Tribeca in Manhattan, her first hotel project.

Post has been commissioned to reimagine the propertyโ€™s first-floor bar and lobby area, an expansive space that she aims to make more like an upscale living room. Construction is underway and due to finish by mid-May.

โ€œMy responsibility is to transform the lounge area and bar area. I wanted it to be sexy, warm, and inviting so people could work for hours or just have a cup of tea. That was the idea of doing all these seating areas and nooks in the space,โ€ says Post. โ€œThereโ€™s no branding; itโ€™s supposed to feel like a living room lounge area.โ€

The first floor will be filled with โ€œdark, moody tones: black porcelain floors, gold-finished metal accents, and curvaceous sofas that create segmented areas for added privacyโ€.

โ€œAKA Tribeca will bring a level of design and service that will be appreciated by the neighbourhood,โ€ said AKA president Larry Korman. โ€œJennifer Postโ€™s sophisticated redesign of the entrance of AKA Tribeca will further beautify the block.โ€

The bar area, which will be anchored by a grey marble bar, will feature photographs from old Hollywood in a nod to the nearby Tribeca Film Festival. The hotel is also expected to be a future venue for events during the festival.

Post has cited Kormanโ€™s style as an inspiration. She told Architectural Digest: โ€œI have a really good sense of understated class โ€“ the right woods with the right stone, with the right leathers, with the right cashmeres. Korman is like Giorgio Armani โ€“ his suits are impeccable. He only dresses in blacks and greys. The most important thing was that this project reflects Larry.โ€

Larry Korman will be speaking at next monthโ€™s Serviced Apartment Summit Americasin New York City. Click here for more information and to buy tickets.
