UK: Investment group 3 Sigma Ayr, of which footballer Ian Henderson serves as a director, is set to break ground on its Coatbridge aparthotel this quarter.

Plans call for the conversion of an office, located at 18 Academy Street in Coatbridge town centre, into a 12-unit aparthotel.

Project partners Henderson, Stephen Gallagher, Derek McGroarty and Peter Rooney, directors of 3 Sigma Ayr, were granted planning permission by North Lanarkshire Council in January 2024.

Work is expected to start in Q1 2025 in collaboration with Jamie Macdonald of Macdonald Engineers, with a target launch in June or July. Block Architects submitted the planning report.

Documents read: “The existing property is of traditional Victorian design and is characterised by sandstone, timber sash windows, and slate roofing. The proposed alterations would be minimal as a result of the overall change of use, largely consisting of internal reconfigurations and improvements to the external appearance of the property”.

Reported by Lanarkshire Live, Henderson said: “People want efficiency, speed and comfort when they stay in a property and our idea is to fully digitise the guest experiences – and we intend to operate digitally. We want to make things as automatic as possible. There will be a housekeeping team available and digital keypads upon entry to the site, with a code for room access. And there will always be accessibility and the opportunity to talk to someone.”

3 Sigma Ayr received planning permission in February 2024 for two basement aparthotel suites at 21 Wellington Square in the centre of Ayr. In September 2024, Shepherd Chartered Surveyors were instructed to market the top floors of the property as serviced offices.
