US: A survey by operator Extended Stay America and conducted by Wakefield Research found that extended stay hotels perform better than vacation rentals or apartments in terms of comfort, value and homeyness.

In the survey, 79 per cent of respondents claimed that extended stay hotels feel like “a home away from home”, while 82 per cent said they feel more like a home than vacation rentals and apartments. Participants preferred extended stay hotels, citing amenities (34 per cent), comfort and familiarity (33 per cent) and personalisation (30 per cent) as some of the most important factors. 43 per cent of respondents also claimed that extended stay hotels are more affordable.

CEO of Extended Stay America, Greg Juceam, said: “As a pioneer of the extended-stay segment, we’re proud to see these survey findings confirm that our guests value what sets us apart – affordability, the comforts of home and genuine care.”

89 per cent of respondents claimed that extended stay hotels fill a “vital need” for people in transition, while 66 per cent consider extended stay hotels a temporary replacement for home during events such as renovations, relocation or financial challenges.

Kelly Poling, executive vice president and chief commercial and brand officer, said: “Our guests depend on Extended Stay America because they know what to expect: spacious suites with fully equipped kitchens and plenty of room to work and relax – a place to call home for however long they need. We’ve spent three decades refining the extended stay experience, setting the standard for the category while consistently delivering genuine hospitality, affordability, and convenience.”

Another important feature cited in the survey was a full-sized kitchen, which all Extended Stay America suites include. 49 per cent of participants claimed a full-sized kitchen is the biggest advantage over traditional hotels, while 61 per cent said that access to a kitchen saves them over $75 each week.

The survey noted that 85 per cent of respondents said they would choose an extended stay hotel for their future hospitality needs.
