WORLDWIDE: Marriott International has announced its serviced apartment offering with the launch of Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy.

The company is joining the growing trend for travellers seeking more space for stays, propelled by the ‘bleisure’ market.

Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy will offer studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments as well as some with penthouse options, and can be developed as new builds or by converting existing properties.

All units will feature a separate living room and bedroom, fully equipped kitchen and washer and dryers. The design elements of the new brand aims to reflect the local neighbourhood for each property.

The new brand will not be an aparthotel like Marriott’s existing extended stay offerings, and as such will not  have any traditional hotel services, such as F&B, meeting rooms, and retail spaces. However the website does suggest a weekly house-keeping service and some properties may feature gyms.

Marriott already has Marriott Executive Apartments, its serviced apartment brand in Asia, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Latin America and the addition of Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy, will grow the concept globally and bring the serviced apartment concept to Marriott guests across the US and Canada.

Stephanie Linnartz, president, Marriott International said: “Travellers planning [holidays] and long business trips today are seeking more choice in accommodations, and the introduction of Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy responds to those trends while offering developers a premium product backed by our trusted name and distribution platform. With Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy, guests will be able to shop a wider array of accommodation options within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, growing their loyalty to the portfolio and its range of brand offerings.”

Marriott plans to introduce Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy in the upper upscale and luxury segments, which will separate it from its existing extended stay brands.

Marriott International announced last month its 31st brand with the acquisition of Mexican hotel company, Hoteles City Express’, brand City Express.
