UK: Planners have approved proposals for a new aparthotel in a grade II-listed property in Cardiff Bay.

An application drawn up by C2J Architects sought permission to partially convert the Perch Buildings on Mount Stuart Square.

The work will create eight self contained aparthotel units at the property, which is a mid-terrace former office and existing retail building.

Cardiff City Council’s planning department has recommended the application is approved, subject to conditions. Listing building consent has also been secured.

A spokesperson for C2J Architects said: “We were delighted to secure consent on behalf of our clients, which will allow this prominent listed building to be brought back into beneficial use.

“Having also recently secured planning consent on the adjacent buildings, No.7 and No.8 Mount Stuart Square for residential use, there is a clear appetite for high quality mixed use developments in the area. Mount Stuart Square continues to see an unprecedented rate of development and regeneration, which can only enhance and add to the vibrancy of Cardiff Bay,” they added.
