AUSTRALIA: Planning has been granted for a 16-storey tower with serviced apartments in central Adelaide.

The block is being built behind a heritage-listed property, the King’s Head in the southern central business district, and construction is expected to start in 2024.

Future Urban and Cucci Investments are behind the plans to construct the tower, which will see part of the listed pub demolished, but the facade protected.

The tower includes 36 serviced apartments, a penthouse suite, a hotel lobby area and a ground floor, which will probably have a coffee shop.

The proposal has several conditions attached to the development mainly concerning protecting the heritage of the pub, but the Government Architect, Heritage SA and the Adelaide City Council have given their support.

The King’s Head, closed during the pandemic but reopened last year as a popular live music venue on Friday and Saturday nights.

Close by there is a 14-storey Tom’s Court Hotel and 15-storey Quest Apartments. Quest recently announced four properties in New Zealand and Fiji.
