Ireland: Further details have been submitted to Laois County Council regarding a proposed five-storey aparthotel development in Portlaoise.
The application has been lodged by The Maltings and Granary Ltd., which is seeking permission to construct the aparthotel on Harpur’s Lane. The proposal represents a significant development on an existing built-up site within the town.
The aparthotel is planned for the Maltings development, which currently includes a number of residential units and The Residence nursing home, a facility with capacity for 101 residents.
The Harpur’s Lane site has been subject to multiple planning applications in recent years. In 2022, Creanross Ltd. sought permission for a three-storey apartment block at the location, with revised plans later approved by the council.
More recently, in 2024, planning permission was granted to The Maltings and Granary Ltd. for the construction of 22 apartments on the same site.
The current proposal for a five-storey aparthotel will be assessed by Laois County Council as part of the planning process.
