Northern Ireland: Hospitality group Beannchor has submitted plans for a 41-bedroom aparthotel as part of a mixed-use development in Belfast city centre.
The proposed development on Ann Street aims to restore and repurpose several historic buildings into a mixed-use hospitality venue.
Beannchor said its plans focus on preserving the architectural integrity of the historic structures while introducing modern amenities to cater to contemporary travellers. Plans involve the construction of two additional storeys for aparthotel use, and refurbishing the current public house, bar and restaurant.
Documents by TSA Planning read: “The proposed development aims to create a mixed-use scheme comprising ground floor retail and licensed premises with aparthotel style accommodation above, as well as creating a publicly accessible ‘Belfast Entry’. The proposal is an opportunity for the regeneration of this part of Ann Street on a prime city centre site, where the upper floors are largely vacant.
“The building 10 Ann Street (including 8-10 and 12 Crown Entry) will comprise of a public house with interconnected bars. Number 12-14 Ann Street will comprise a bar and restaurant. The first and second floor levels of the bar/restaurant include an external terrace at first floor level with a rooftop terrace at level two.
“The proposal represents a total investment of £14 million and will take 10 months to deliver. The proposal has the potential to create 55 jobs during the construction stage, with 95 full time employment jobs being created in the hospitality and retail sector once the hotel, restaurant and pubic bar are operational.”
A full planning application has been submitted to Belfast City Council. A consultation is currently open with a full decision yet to be made.
The project is not the first historic building Beannchor has restored in Belfast. The Merchant Hotel, which opened in 2006, involved the restoration of a former bank building.
