US: Hospitality group IHG Hotels & Resorts has opened a dual-branded hotel in Coralville, Iowa, combining its avid hotels and Candlewood Suites brands.

Located near Iowa City and the University of Iowa, the property is owned by Westcor JD Royal Hospitality. It has been designed to cater to both transient and long-stay guests, and aims to further expand IHG’s footprint in the US midscale segment.

The new-build property features 139 rooms split between the 71-room avid hotel and 68-room Candlewood Suites.

The two brands share amenities including a fitness centre, lobby areas, a market, and business facilities, as well as back-of-house operations.

Avid aims to provide a modern, streamlined option for short-stay travellers, while Candlewood is tailored for longer visits with in-room kitchenettes and laundry access.

Karen Gilbride, VP, avid hotels and Atwell Suites at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “Since launching the avid brand just a few years ago, we’ve seen incredible demand and guest satisfaction, with this hotel marking our 80th open property. Our dual-brand strategy allows us to bring complementary experiences to a broader range of guests and drive operational efficiency for owners.”

IHG said nearly 30 per cent of avid hotels and more than a quarter of Candlewood Suites projects that are currently in development are being built as part of dual-branded sites.
