UK: Teignbridge Council has approved plans for the derelict Welcome Inn at Dawlish Warren to be transformed into a 29-room aparthotel.
Freetime Leisure Management will demolish the former inn, which has stood empty since 2020. It will be rebuilt as an aparthotel with a spa, coffee house, and a cafe/bar.
The company also runs the Boathouse at Dawlish Warren.
PCL Planning said in the planning statement: “The proposed layout of the aparthotel includes a reception area, office space, and leisure and operations facilities. On the ground floor, there will be a coffee house with a terraced area, accessible to pedestrians from Mount Pleasant Road. The remainder of the ground floor will feature a number of accessible accommodation units for disabled guests and dog- friendly units. The first and second floors will accommodate a diverse range of units, while the third floor will house a reduced number of accommodation units.”
In the design and access document, local architects Kay Elliott said: “The proposed design will deliver a development that is distinctive and of high quality in its appearance, which should in turn help to raise standards and drive regeneration and investment in the area. At present the building makes no contribution to life in Dawlish Warren.”
