SPAIN: Tennis star, Rafael Nadal’s uncle Toni, has bought the Galeón Aparthotel in Puerto Pollensa in northern Mallorca.

The hotel, which first opened in 1961 is on the beach and currently offers superior and terrace rooms with sea views as well as two and three bed apartments.

Apartments offer king or twin bedrooms, a living room and a marble bathroom, along with a fully-equipped kitchen. Each apartment also has a washing machine, satellite TV and wifi.

The acquisition, which was completed last month, was with Jaume Salas, president of the Pollensa Hoteliers Association. There are plans to upgrade the property, which last had a major refurbishment in the 1990s.

Toni Nadal was born on the island the same year the hotel opened.

Pollensa’s mayor, Andrés Nevado, told Mallorca Daily Bulletin: “The quality that the Nadal family will bring will be significant, and we are delighted that this will be the case. For Pollensa, it is good that the quality of the hotels is increasing regardless of who buys them. But if this is a Mallorcan, and renowned on top of that, we are more than happy that the hotel remains in local hands.”

Back on the mainland, SAN recently reported Zleep launched its aparthotel in Madrid.
