UK: Thackeray Group’s mixed-use development in Reading, which is set to include an aparthotel, has been changed to also feature a Jury’s Inn.

The development, designed by architect’s Frost, will take up part of Queen Victoria Street and Friars Street in the centre of the city and originally focused on an aparthotel. However new plans have come to light for a 157-room Jury’s Inn further along Friar Street.

Plans for the space also include a market square, shops, cafes and the regeneration of existing buildings. The idea is to create an area the local community can use for working, socialising and shopping, as well as attracting visitors from outside the area.

The scheme will provide a 41-suite hotel expected to be operated by an international brand.

Frost’s website describes the concept behind the aparthotel: “By providing a location in the heart of the town, the proposal offers easy access to the local area and the chance to explore. The aparthotel is intended for short term stays serving business travellers and tourists, and attracting both international and domestic customers. By locating the aparthotel in the restored listed building, the accommodation is a truly unique experience offering customers the chance to feel part of the history of the town.”

The frontages of Queen Victoria Street and Friar Street will link directly through to the new market square behind them.

Thackeray Group is a property development and investment company with a national portfolio of properties across various sectors including retail, office, care, residential and short stay.

SAN has covered the progress of the development since plans were approved a year ago.
