US: Sandpiper Hospitality to manage 25 Wyndham Hotels and Resorts for Project Echo
Sandpiper Hospitality, a Virginia-based hotel management company that specialises in the extended stay sector, is taking on the management of 25 Wyndham Hotels and Resorts for its new extended stay brand, currently known as Economy Hotel Opportunity or Project ECHO.
Wyndham Hotels and Resorts has chosen Sandpiper Lodging Trust to build 25 of the 50 extended stay properties, with one opening in the next year and one currently under review. Sandpiper Hospitality will operate 25 of the new extended stay hotels, while Gulf Coast Hotel Management will operate the others.
President and CEO Sandpiper Hospitality Jim Darter told CoStar: “We worked very closely on helping them [Wyndham Hotels and Resorts] design the brand. They’ve been incredible listeners, collaborating with us from a design standpoint and the operating standards standpoint. We look at it as a new relationship not only to develop hotels but for Sandpiper Hospitality to manage more and more Wyndham properties.”
Over the next few months Sandpiper Hospitality will open four Wyndham-branded hotels for a third-party client, including a La Quinta and Hawthorn Suites dual-brand. Choice Hotels International is also a key partner after Sandpiper Lodging Trust acquired two WoodSpring Suites this year: WoodSpring Suites Orlando Clarion, Maitland and the WoodSpring Suites Orlando Clermont, Minneola. Sandpiper Hospitality manages both hotels.
Sandpiper Hospitality started with four properties in 2012 and has grown to manage more than 53 hotels, 52 of which are extended stay. The company manages a range of extended stay properties from budget to midscale to higher-end.
