UK: Situ has been awarded a Carbon Neutral standard by Carbon Footprint Ltd after launching its Be More Starfish ESG programme.

The company, which launched its Be More Starfish Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programme last year has reduced its carbon emissions by 15.46 per cent last year and offset 74 tonnes of carbon dioxide, double the amount produced.

To put it into perspective, 74 tonnes of carbon dioxide is equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions from 183,683 miles driven by a petrol car. Or the equivalent to 15.9 petrol cars driving for one year.

Be More Starfish’s premise was that each and every act everyone takes, no matter how small, is meaningful – and that lots of small changes add up to bigger change.

Carbon Footprint Ltd has confirmed that Situ reduced its carbon emissions by 15.46 per cent last year vs the baseline year of 2019-20. As a result, Carbon Footprint has awarded Situ the status of Carbon Neutral + Organisation. You can see the standard the Carbon Footprint has awarded Situ here.

Phil Stapleton, Situ’s managing director, said: “We are pleased with this award, and really feel we are starting to help do our bit to combat climate change and sustain our environment for future generations. Of course, there is so much more to do, but we are excited to keep on making the small changes that do add up to make a difference.”

In addition to the recognition from the Carbon Footprint Ltd, Situ has been working with its partner Do Nation, and has saved a further 590 kg of carbon – equivalent to 62.8 flights from Glasgow to Amsterdam.

This reduction in carbon was achieved through the Situ team’s pledges to make small changes in their personal lives, and to live and act more sustainably. The changes the staff made ranged from drying clothes outdoors, and shopping locally to walking instead of using the car.

Do Nation has created an innovative pledge programme that helps organisations inspire their people, clients, guests, partners, and suppliers to act more sustainably at home and work.

According to Ipsos 85 per cent of people in the UK are worried about climate change so Do Nation offers people the tools and encouragement they need to do something about it and take meaningful action together.

The Situ team are committing to more pledges and changes this year under the leadership of the Situ Sustainability Committee.
