UK: Supercity has been given the go ahead for its first aparthotel in Edinburgh.

The development will involve a renovation of Forth House (keeping its facade) and Playfair House, as well as “associated parking, landscaping, and ancillary works”.

Supercity’s 55-room aparthotel will feature a communal lounge and bar area, 24/hr reception and a gym.

Existing parking spaces are being reduced from 24 spaces to seven as the application points out the site has good travel links. There will be 10 secure bike spaces inside the property and a further four outside.

Roger Walters, chairman of Supercity Aparthotels, said: “We are delighted that our aparthotel operation has been approved by the committee, which will preserve the fabulous Forth House. This is an excellent location for our first operation in Edinburgh, lying close to the busy city centre and will also serve to benefit the community through reducing movements to and from the building than is currently the case.”

Supercity has four aparthotels in London, one in Brighton and one in Manchester. At the beginning of this year Supercity submitted revised plans for an aparthotel in Leeds. In April the brand’s aparthotel in York started the construction process.
