UK: The Pocklington, an aparthotel in a grade II listed building in Leicester has opened for business.
The property features 10 apartments, each with a theme inspired by Leicestershire places and people, from The Golden Mile to King Richard III.
At the helm of the aparthotel are mother and son duo, Prity and Kyle Chauhan, who are experienced in running hotels and have another Leicester property – the De Luxe Aparthotel. With The Pocklington they aim to offer “a luxurious haven for travellers seeking a unique and elegant accommodation experience.”
The building, at 1 Pocklingtons Walk, was designed by Leicester architect Frank Seale and was completed in 1893. It was originally the combined Poor Law and Register Office, providing help for Leicester’s poor and recording births and deaths and carrying out marriage ceremonies. In the early 20th century, it became a courthouse, which closed in 2011. It sat disused until being purchased by the current landlord in 2015, who originally planned to turn it into a 38-room hotel.
The Pocklington is made up of six two-bedroom apartments and four one-bedroom apartments. The one bedroom apartments have a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen/diner and lounge, and the two bedroom apartments also have an additional bathroom.
Two of the apartments – The Golden Mile Suite and the Richard III Suite – have their own balconies, while the Ceremonial Suite includes a freestanding bath in the large bedroom.
The Pocklington is at 1 Pocklingtons Walk, Leicester. Prices start at £150 per night.
