Portugal: Hybrid hotel chain The Social Hub has opened its first venue in Porto, Portugal, advancing the hospitality group’s European expansion.
The €60 (£49.55) million project, located in the Bonjardim area, spans 11,200 square metres and features 271 hotel rooms, 39 apartments, coworking and meeting spaces, a gym, and a rooftop pool with a cocktail bar with panoramic views.
The Social Hub said this launch will create 30 new jobs in Porto and increase the group’s portfolio to 20 locations across 18 European cities, with plans for a Lisbon venue also underway.
The design of the hub aims to pays homage to Porto’s cultural heritage as a Unesco World Heritage Site while incorporating modern elements.
Amenities include over 580 square metres of coworking space, 450 square metres of meeting and event areas, and an interior courtyard garden.
Dining options include a full-service restaurant offering small plates and organic wines, a rooftop cocktail bar, and a café serving speciality coffee from local roaster Combi alongside pastel de nata.
As a B Corp-certified company, The Social Hub said it is committed to fostering community and creating social impact.
The Porto venue will host more than 200 community events annually, including cooking classes, professional skill-building programs, and cultural initiatives.
The Social Hub said the Porto opening underscores its mission to connect travellers, digital nomads, young professionals, and locals in a vibrant, community-driven environment.
Marion Koopman, chief operations and commercial officer at The Social Hub said: “This remarkable hub has a very special meaning for us as it represents our arrival to the dynamic Portuguese market.
“Porto is the perfect place to embark on this journey, having worked closely with key city government players over the past four years. They – from the very beginning – stressed the importance of sustainable development and embraced the value that our unique community-centric model can bring to the community.”
The Social Hub, which has 23 properties across several European cities including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Glasgow, Madrid, Paris, and Vienna, has last month also expanded into the Italian market, announcing its second property in Florence.
