Germany: Locke has opened its first property in mainland Europe, the Schwan Locke in Munich.
Schwan Locke is one of several aparthotels in the brand’s ongoing expansion and is the first of two hotels set to open in Munich this year. Locke has plans to open a second property in Munich, WunderLocke in Sendling in the fall.
The Schwan Locke, which is expected to draw both business and leisure guests, contains 151 design-led studio apartments that are equipped with kitchens, living areas, and dining spaces. Apartments are available for any length of stay, and rates start at €145 per night.
The property features the Ludwig Suite, Schwan Locke’s premium room, which includes a six-person dining table, custom cocktail bar, and a terrace with views of the city.
The facility features several amenities for guests to use including a co-working space, a gym, retail spaces, a courtyard, and dining options.
The Schwan Locke dining options will include BAMBULE, a concept that Locke created in partnership with Mural, a Michelin-star restaurant. Options will include a coffee shop, serving coffee and light snacks, and a wine and cocktail bar, which will also feature charcuterie, oysters, small plates, and more.
Founder of Mural, Moritz Meyn, said: “We are thrilled to partner with Locke and launch BAMBULE! in the brand’s first opening in Munich. After a challenging year for hospitality, it feels like the right time to open an original new venture that will bring a unique food and drink concept to the Theresienwiese neighbourhood. We’re excited for BAMBULE! to pre-empt our opening in WunderLocke later this year, with our farm-to-table concept, Mural Farmhouse.”
The hotel was designed by interior architecture firm Fettle, inspired by the Deutscher Werkbund, a movement that believed that high quality art could improve the nation’s quality of life. The interior of the hotel contains bespoke furniture inspired by the 20th century and an art collection inspired by the women of the Werkbund, including Marianne Brandt and Lilly Reich. The art also highlights local talent with works from Veronika Grenzebach, Armin Kiss-Istok, and Tomomi Maezawa.
The property, located in the Glockenbachviertel district, is in close proximity to several Munich attractions including Theresienwiese, the site of Oktoberfest, as well as several museums, shops, and restaurants. Other Munich attractions can be reached within a few stops on the underground.
