Ireland: Developer Dalespell Limited has been granted permission from Limerick City and County Council to transform the city’s Debenhams store into an aparthotel.
Associated Design Architects submitted plans on behalf of Dalespell, which will see part of the ground, first and second floors as well as the entire third floor of the vacant Debenhams store transformed into an aparthotel.
According to the proposal, it will feature 57 bedrooms in total as well as a communal kitchen and dining room, a lounge and games room, and a meeting room.
Internal alternations to the layout of the site as well as additional windows to the rear elevations and a new ground floor exit door will be included. The basement and parts of the ground, first and second floors will remain for retail use.
Limerick City and County Council have consented to the scheme, subject to eight conditions. These include limitations regarding the number of hours worked on site and a revised proposal for lighting and signage.
Work must also be carried out and supervised by a Grade-II conservation architect.
The store is located at 134-135 O’Connell Street in Limerick. The site has been vacant since 2020 when the UK clothing chain closed all of its Irish stores.
