Ireland: Marlin Apartments has bought three buildings on Aungier Street in Dublin as part of a hotel project.
Marlin plans to restore the buildings as part of the development of an adjacent 300-bedroom hotel.
The company, owned by John Corless, aims to develop a restaurant and shops at 22-24 Aungier Street, with apartments above. The company recently received planning consent for a 300-bedroom hotel at Bow Lane, behind the Aungier Street site.
Susan Cully, managing director of Marlin Apartments, said the buildings would be “restored to their former glory”. No 22 Aungier Street dates from 1690, while No 24 has decorative plasterwork and a staircase dating back to the 1760s.
Work on the Aungier Street buildings will be similar to Marlin’s restoration of a building at 4 Brabant Court in the City of London, for which it won a heritage award, Cully said.
Marlin started site work on the €60 million Dublin hotel late last year. It will take two-and-a-half years to build and will employ 300 construction workers, while the finished hotel will have 150 staff.
