UK: Serviced apartment operator The Residence Apartments is launching an aparthotel brand Jitaku in central London next summer.

Jitaku, meaning one’s home in Japanese, will debut in summer 2025 located at 10-16 Bevis Marks between the Gherkin building and Liverpool Street station in London.

The aparthotel will feature 24 apartments including a mix of studios, one and two bed apartments. Interiors will follow the Japandi concept of blending Japanese and Scandinavian design, led by architecture firm AHMM.

Working alongside investors Sterling and SG Rocks, there are plans to roll out the brand across London over the next five years, aiming for more than 150 apartments across five properties.

Steve Lowy, CEO and founder of The Residence Apartments, said: “Jitaku is a response to the wonderful feedback we have received from our guests and partners at The Residence Apartments over the last seven years in our existing extended stay offering. The blend of Japanese and Scandinavian design brings us clean lines, simplicity, and gives our guests who have stayed with us on a longer-term basis the option of a shorter stay at Jitaku.

“It has been a pleasure working with Sterling and AHMM bringing this all to life; something we are all really excited about, and it is fantastic we have been able to reuse an existing structure in such a historical part of London,” he added.

Richard Silver, co-founder of Sterling, said: “Sterling Real Estate and SG Rocks are very excited to work in partnership with The Residence and the Jitaku brand for our development in the heart of London. We look forward to delivering a best-in-class offering through Jitaku, for the City of London Borough.”

Sterling Real Estate is a private investment company which acquires and manages commercial assets primarily in central and Greater London.

SG Rocks is a privately owned real estate company established in early 2022 with a focus on retrofitting buildings.

The Sterling and SG Rocks JV acquired the Jitaku site in Q4 2023.

The Residence provides a selection of luxury serviced apartments across five central London locations: Marylebone Lane, Tower Hill, Kensington, Shoreditch, and Hoxton. Jitaku marks the first aparthotel brand from the team.
