UK: Coastal aparthotel brand SeaSpace has officially opened in Newquay, Cornwall, created by the team behind Watergate Bay Hotel, Another Place and Beach Retreats.

The two-year, £11 million redevelopment of the former Sands Resort in Cornwall, overseen by architects Kay Elliott, has led to the market debut of SeaSpace.

It offers 56 studios and apartments, a health club featuring a swimming pool, gym and workout studio, cafe and bar, a Padel tennis club, and more.

In 2025, the number of units will increase to 72. Planning permission has also been granted for 24 lodges in the grounds.

SeaSpace CEO Ben Harper said: “The aparthotel is proven in urban environments and it has been a long-held vision to translate this into a coastal environment. We’ve written a new chapter for this former seaside hotel and that’s a great privilege. With a brand designed to scale, we’re keen to seize the opportunity to do this in other markets around the UK coastline.”

General manager Mark Williams added: “We can’t wait to introduce guests to this new way of staying. With its relaxed feel and community-first focus, along with insider insight and freedom to choose, we’re giving people the independence to make their stay their own.”

The SeaSpace team is currently working on becoming B Corp certified.
